Change of Clothes in Backpacks
Parents of Kindergarten and First grade students please consider putting a full change of clothes in your child's backpack. The clinic's supply of clothes is very low and often we can not supply a change in case of an accident. Please place the change of clothes in a zip lock bag and it can stay in the student's backpack in case it is needed. That will save you a trip to the school and get your student back in class and feeling fresh in no time. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call the nurse at 703-441-0500.

Products used for cosmetic purposes and not for relief of symptoms are not regarded as medication. These products would include non-prescription eye care products such as saline or contact lens solutions and skin care preparations such as petroleum jelly, Clearasil, lip balm, hand lotion, and sunscreen. Students may carry and appropriately use non-medicated products. For the comfort and safety of others, spray or aerosol products are not to be used.

Cough drops and throat lozenges may be carried and used by students in kindergarten through grade 12 as needed, provided that they are in the original container or packaging (Authorization for Medication Administration form is not required). Students must not share cough drops or throat lozenges under any circumstances.

Health Promotion

As we are entering the cold and flu season, this is a reminder of the best health practices to decrease the spread and transmission of viruses in PWCS schools.

Please remember to cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw used tissues in the trash.  If you don't have a tissue, cough, or sneeze into your elbow, not your hands.  Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, dry hands with a paper towel, and use the paper towel to turn off the faucet.  If soap and water are not available, hand sanitizers may also be used to preform hand hygiene.  Remember to stay home when you’re sick until at least 24 hours without a fever or the use of fever reducing medicine.  Together we can help stop the spread of germs that may make you and others ill.

**Hepatitis A Vaccination is a New Requirement for ALL Kindergarteners**
All Kindergarteners/New students must have physicals, No Exceptions.
New Health Treatment Plans are Required every year.

Vision and Hearing Screening

We screen hearing and vision on all kindergarten students, third grade students, and all students new to Prince William County Public Schools. If a child fails the first hearing screening, he/she is re-screened a two weeks later. If they fail a second time, a referral is sent home with the student. At that point, contact your physician regarding any follow up they feel is necessary. If a child fails the vision screening, a referral letter is sent home and the parent is to follow up as necessary. If you are unable to afford an eye exam and eyeglasses if necessary, please contact me - I may be able to provide a voucher for an exam and eyeglasses for your child. A parent may request that I do a hearing or vision screening at any time. If your child wears glasses please make sure they have them.
