PWCS cares deeply about students' emotional well-being. If a student is in need of emotional support during this time, please feel free to send an email to [email protected]. A school mental health or health professional will answer and offer virtual support to students to the best of their ability. This email is not to be used for emergency situations as it will not be monitored 24 hours a day. If a student is ever in an emergency situation he/she is encouraged to call 911 or utilize one of the resources listed below:

The mission of the River Oaks Elementary School Counseling Program is to nurture and support every student in reaching his or her potential through academic, personal/social and career development. The program strives to develop responsible learners that will become successful leaders.

The Professional School Counselors at River Oaks Elementary School believe:

All students can achieve and deserve equitable access to resources and a rigorous curriculum.

All students' dignity and culture (including race, ethnicity, gender, abilities/disabilities, spirituality/religion, home, language, socioeconomic status) is respected and valued.

All students will have access to a comprehensive, developmental school counseling program run by master's level, state certified, professional school counselors.

The school counselors will proactively act as advocates for all students.

The school counselors will lead a collaborative effort to design, implement, assess, and continuously improve the comprehensive, data driven school counseling program.

The school counselors will collaborate with families, staff, and community resources to assist with student development.

Welcome! My name is Mrs. Deborah Wells and I have been one of the School Counselors at ROES since 2003. I am excited to be here for our River Oaks Families and the Community. As a School Counselor, I work with parents and students in many ways through a program of services. I believe in developing and maintaining relationships with all students, parents and staff so that ALL students can be successful! The Counseling Department's goal is to support all students with their academic, career and social/emotional development.

I received my B.S. degree in Social Work from Bowie State University and my M.Ed. degree in Counseling and Development from George Mason University. I look forward to working with our Dolphin families and having an amazing school year! Greetings! My name is Janai Beauchamp and I've been here since 2016 as one of the School Counselor's working with the students, staff, and parents at River Oaks Elementary School. I acquired my B.A. degree in Sociology from Norfolk State University and M.Ed. degree in School Counseling from Seton Hall University.
