What are we learning?
Math: SOL 3.3a,b,c 3.7 We will name and write fractions (including mixed numbers) represented by a model. We will model fractions (including mixed numbers) and write the fractions' names. We will compare fractions having like and unlike denominators, using words and symbols (<,>,=) We will add and subtract proper fractions having like denominators of 12 or less. Vocabulary words:numerator, fraction, equivalent fractions, equals, denominator, greater than, less than, unit fractions and like fractions.
Reading/Writing: SOL 3.7a,3.4b, 3.4a We will demonstrate comprehension of information from a variety of print and electronic resources. We will use encyclopedias and other reference books, including online reference materials as well as use table of contents, indices and charts. We will expand our vocabulary when reading and use knowledge of homophones, roots, affixes, synonyms and antonyms.
Social Studies: 3.1 We will explain how the contributions of ancient Greece and Rome have influenced the present world in terms of architecture, government (direct and representative democracy), and sports.Vocabulary words: ancient, architecture, contribution, government, Direct Democracy, Representative Democracy, mediterranean, characteristics, arches, Olympics, colosseum, mosaic, and Parthenon.
Science:3.4 We will investigate and understand that adaptations allow animals to satisfy life needs and respond to the environment. We will study behavioral and physical adaptations.Vocabulary words: camouflage, migration, hibernation, mimicry, instinct and learned behavior.
