Overview
My name is Miss Hay and I am a native of Jamaica. I am a graduate of St. Joseph's Teachers' College and Florida International University. I have a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) in Primary Education and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction (MSc.)

Having spent a little over ten years in the classroom has broaden my horizon and perspective because I have gotten the opportunity to teach all the grades at the elementary level. With this experience I am better able to channel my discourse and dispositions.

I consider myself as an effective 21st Century educator since I consistently emphasize life skills and engage my students in rigorous hands-on activities that promote critical thinking, transfer learning and good understanding. I am also a life-long learner who embrace challenges and is very receptive towards changes.

Teaching has now become my passion because it gives me the opportunity to unearth and nurture varying abilities that students possess. It also gives me an avenue to eliminate hegemonic cultures within the classroom and to create an environment which provides equity and equality for all students. Most importantly, it gives me the opportunity to experiment my manadate, "Every Child Can Learn, Every Child Must Learn!"

Class Message
Hello my beautiful students!
I hope you and your family are all safe amidst this COVID-19 pandemic. Here are a few precautionary measures to exercise in order to remain safe and healthy.
1. Wash hands frequently with soap and water/sanitize.
2. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
3. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
4. Put distance between yourself and other people who are sick.
In order to continue a meaningful and effective  teaching learning process I have posted several activities that you can access while you are at home. As time goes by I will upload additional activities that will support, reinforce and provide practice for core subjects such as Reading, Mathematics as well as Virginia Studies and Science.
Finally, I know you might not have  your interactive notebooks books at home but please continue to utilize all strategies that you have learnt in class. Remember this is very important as it plays an integral role in your overall success.  Take care and hope to see you soon.
Sincerely,
Miss Hay.
