Principal Dr. Nikisha L. Blackmon

Dear River Oaks Elementary School Families,

I am excited and proud to be the new principal of River Oaks Elementary School. It is such an honor to serve the students, staff, and families of River Oaks. I will continue to build on the tradition of excellence established by the staff and community. I truly feel fortunate to be a part of River Oaks and to support the students, families, and staff. I am confident that as a united and collaborative school community, we will continue to make a difference and have a great impact on each child's life.

I have been an educator for 22 years. I started my career as an elementary school classroom teacher. During my 22 years as an educator, I have also had the opportunity to be a mentor teacher, reading and writing national trainer, reading specialist, academy coordinator, teacher of elementary education undergraduate students, assistant principal, and principal intern. I was a principal in Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland, prior to coming to Prince William County. I received my undergraduate degree at Coppin State University and both my masters and doctorate degrees from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

I believe in creating strong relationships with students, parents/guardians, and staff. What drives my work every day is my commitment to ensure that all students perform at high levels academically, socially, and emotionally. As the principal of River Oaks Elementary School, my goal is to be sure that we as educators engage, educate, and empower students every day. I will continue to work to provide leadership that will foster an environment of safety, respect, social-emotional well-being, and academic learning at the highest level.

I look forward to working with and getting to know all of you during this upcoming 2022-2023 school year. Please feel free to contact me at blackmnl@pwcs.edu or 703-441-0050.

Your Servant Leader,

Dr. Blackmon
