UPDATE: Monday, April 20, 2020

Good afternoon parents/guardians,

As we continue to move forward through this devastating and uncertain time, I have posted the "Virtual School House Learning" link on my webpage, and I have emailed it and sent it out through ClassTag as well.  It outlines a schedule for the students and gives them activities that they can be working on each day. Thank you all for your continued support through this, and we will continue to move forward.  Please continue to have your child use Dreambox, IXL, EPIC, SOL Pass, XTraMath, Flocabulary, and Virginia Studies Weekly.  I also have extra work linked on here as well.  As always, I am here for continued support in any way that I can.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out and contact me.

Thank you.

Ms. Speck

UPDATE: Tuesday, March 24, 2020

Good afternoon parents/guardians,

As you all may have seen, the Governor has closed all Virginia schools for the 2019-2020 school year.  I am still trying to wrap my head around all of this, as I am extremely devastated.  Once we have further updates about where our learning is going to go from here, I will be sure to send out another update.  I would also like to invite you, and of course my amazing students, to join in a virtual video chat with their classmates and myself.  I miss my students' smiling and bright faces, and would enjoy the opportunity to see them again!  I will be sending out details via ClassTag for this as well.   If you would like to join in, you will need to download the app "Zoom" and enter the password that I will be giving out.  You can also reach the video chat via: https://us04web.zom.us/j/618583067?pwd=YjBma0ZRb1NybTJHTGRkMitYaWt2dz09.  I will be chatting with my students this Friday, March 27th from 3:00pm-4:00pm.  I am also going to try and do this each week, just to see how everyone is doing!  I hope you can join us to say hi, and let us know how you are doing! :)

Thank you all for your support during this devastating time.  I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.  Again, if you need to contact me, please do not hesitate to reach out via ClassTag or by email: specklm@pwcs.edu.

Thursday, March 19th, 2020

Dear parents/guardians,

As we move forward and navigate teaching and learning from home, I will be updating material that students may work on.  All material will be review that we have done in school and will focus on our SOL areas; Reading, Math, and Virginia Studies.  As of now through March 30th, I would highly encourage students to be going on Dreambox, IXL, SOL Pass, Flocabulary, and EPIC.  Most of these programs can be accessed via their Clever accounts.  To access their Clever account, they need to type their username@pwcs-edu.org and their password is the same password they would use to log into the computer.  Students were also given their rotation folders for Reading, Math, and Virginia Studies which can serve as a review.  Again, this work is also not mandatory and does not need to be completed until after March 30th.  If you have any difficulties with this, please do not hesitate to contact me via ClassTag or at specklm@pwcs.edu.

After March 30th, any practice items that have been added are not mandatory. Once I receive further information, I will be letting you all know.  The practice items are broken into Reading, Math, and Virginia Studies review folders and again, are not homework.  These will serve as review items and do not need to be started/completed until after March 30th.  As of now, I simply would like my students focusing on being with their families.  You may encourage your child to continue reading and practicing their multiplication grid, but all work is not mandatory.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me via ClassTag or by email at specklm@pwcs.edu.  We are following PWCS closely on what the next steps are, so please be on the lookout for further updates.  I will be posting any updates here and on ClassTag.  I hope everything is running smoothly; stay safe and healthy, and I will talk to you all soon.

Thank you, and have a great day.
